Home & Family TO BE FIXED

Apologies …

I’m just posting this really quickly at work before I start … I need to let a few people know their birthday gifts arrived a while ago, but it seems no-one has received the thank you emails I sent via the internet mail gateway from work (I presume the firewall prevented it from sending).  Anyway, I was hoping to post a full post complete with piccies of the gifts this last weekend, after popping out briefly in the morning to the ‘local’ shopping centre.  Unfortunately plans didn’t quite work out, and I ended up getting a massive migraine while out, and had to pull the car over on the way home to throw up!  Needless to say, I’ve been cocooned up in bed all weekend not achieving much of anything – I tried to jump online, but it made me feel worse so I gave up!

Anyway, I wanted to let the following people know their gifts have arrived safely – I’ll send proper thank you emails (again) as soon as I can.  I love everything, and feel terrible now I know you didn’t receive my original email, as that was just over 2 weeks ago now!!!

So, thank you to NickiL, CarolS, SharonH, BarbaraCL, and KatrinaJ – I love everything and will post piccies as soon as I can.

I hope I haven’t missed anyone, but I’m still not feeling 100% today … time will tell whether I end up staying the full day at work today.  I guess I pushed myself a bit hard too early, and I hadn’t gotten over my viral bugs yet!   😦

In better news, though, I’ve managed to finish LHN’s Winter Wonderland and Blueberries on Friday night! 🙂

Rightio, off to work again …

Cross Stitch, Home & Family TO BE FIXED

Still living … just

Sorry I’ve been offline, but I literally haven’t opened up my laptop at home for just over a week and a half (a week last Saturday morning to be exact!).  I’m currently posting this really quickly at work before I head off home.  I’ve been flat out at work, then got a horrendous cold so I’ve been fighting that off over the last 4-5 days … I have, however, managed to get HEAPS of stitching done by starting and almost finishing LHN’s Winter Wonderland (just have one DMC colour that’s gone AWOL for now) and LHN’s Sampler Lady (just have the blue in the blouse left to stitch – and she’s so beautiful in real life!).  I’ve also just started last night the LHN/CC Blueberries kit, so that should be finished over the next couple of days hopefully.

I intend to ignore my computer for a while longer, although I will jump in at some stage and check emails, but at the moment it’s been nice to get some selfish stitching in instead, especially while getting over my viral bugs!

If you see my Photo Hunt posts they’ve all been pre-prepared for weeks now to take me pretty much into April/May, so even though I’m not online you’ll see at least one post per week for a while!

OK, time to shut down and head off home … late, just for a change!! 😦

Change in blogging habits

It saddens me to say that I can no longer blog the old way that I used to – I just don’t spend as much time online as I used to, partly due to my working hours now I just don’t have as much free time as I used to with shift work, and partly because I’m getting out and about a lot more than I used to.  I can never seem to get on top of my blog reading anymore, and my favourite blogs are suffering because of it in that I just don’t have time to comment much anymore while I’m rushing trying to read everything.  In February I had just over 250 blogs in my blogroll that I liked to browse through, but I have to say sorry to some bloggers that I just can’t keep those numbers up anymore, and I’m starting to cull a few blogs out of the list.

This is one of the hardest decisions I think I’ve had to make, but I want to make my online time ‘quality time’.  The blogs that will remain are mainly those that are full of inspiring stitching piccies and finishes, and those pals that I have already met and build up a close relationship with.  A few blogs have moved away from the stitching realm somewhat, into areas that I don’t have as much of an interest, so I’m not as inspired to read daily.

One thing that I notice I’m doing more and more is that because I use a newsreader, rather than going into the actual blogs themselves (unless commenting on a post), I’m finding that I’m spending less time reading those blogs that don’t show the full feed but only a summary, as it takes so much longer for the blog page to load up to read that page … so I’m tending to leave those blogs until last to read.  A couple of these blogs are in my “love to read” section too, so please don’t be offended if you get an email from you asking you if you’d be willing to change your settings ‘cos I’m selfish and want to continue reading your posts 🙂

Anyway, I do apologise in advance if your blog is removed from my blogroll, I just have to make my online time more manageable – having 1000+ unread feeds on a regular basis is quite deflating …

Rightio, that being said, I’m off to read a few blogs this morning to catch up on a tiny bit of backlog before heading out for a walk …

Cross Stitch, Stitch-alongs

The week’s recap

Wow, what an amazing adventure last weekend was!!  I haven’t had time to sit at the laptop since returning home, but I had an absolute blast at the stitching get-together in Robertson – everyone was so lovely and chatty, and I got to see some exquisite stitched pieces both in Margaret’s home and show-and-tell from all those prolific stitchers!  It truly was a sheer joy, and I can’t wait until the next one rolls around!  I’ve been in a major stitching slump over the last two months, but after spending time chatting about stitching, and seeing so much finished stitching and WIP’s, when I got home I actually got my needle out and started stitching for an hour or two on Sunday night 😀

On arrival at the SAL I was extremely spoilt by Alison – she came bearing gifts of cans of L&P for me (aka liquid gold!!) … thanks again so much Alison, that was soooo sweet of you to think about me! {{hugs}} It was also really great to put a name to the face of Alison, and she had a wonderful wicked sense of humour, which is shared equally by Amanda – Amanda and I did a wee stitching trade a while ago, so it was nice to meet up in real life as well … and I think it’s going to be the start of many more get-togethers I hope. In fact, I hope I get to meet up with the entire group on a more regular basis!!

Margaret was the perfect hostess with the mostest – her home is like a needlework store full of stitched models – what a treat to spend the day there.  I’ve never seen so many exquisite stitched pieces on the walls in a home in all my life … and possibly won’t ever again!  I must’ve looked soooo attractive wandering around like a goldfish with my mouth gaping open in awe! 😉

Robyn and I actually started the day off really well by making a slight detour to Victoria House at Mittagong. I have to admit to not buying much, apart from two Christmassy charts for Mum from the sale basket … but it was lovely to see all the stitched models on the walls 🙂

Here are a couple of photos of our stitching group from Sunday – unfortunately the photo is missing two members who had popped up the road, but we managed to get most people in 🙂

Next up is my small finish – this is what I started on Sunday night, and I put the final stitches in on Monday night – I can’t believe it took me so long to stitch it, I really HAVE lost my stitching mojo!! This is Lizzie*Kate’s Joy ornament from the 2007 JCS ornie magazine. This was for the February ornie challenge on the Yahoo xsers group.

Stitched on ‘mystery’ linen with the recommended
green threads, but the red and white were substituted threads

After finishing “Joy”, I started my ‘commitment’ stitching – one of the CA Wells projects for my April class. To be honest, in hindsight I wish I hadn’t signed up for this one, as the project really does nothing for me, so it’s been pretty low on the list for stitching … that also might be affecting my overall stitching motivation hmmm. Anyway, I’ve made a start now, so hopefully it will be easier to keep the motivation happening.

I do have some other goodies to post about, but I need to send emails of thanks to everyone involved before posting piccies … and my flatmate is calling me for dinner, so I’d better head off! I’ll try to post again on Sunday night, as I’m heading over to stay with Brenda and Nigel tomorrow night so may not have much free time.  Unfortunately I haven’t had much time to sit down tonight either, as I’ve been chatting to Mum on the phone for a while, then sitting having dinner with Lisa and her friend who’s flown up to stay here for the weekend with ‘us’ …

What can I say?  Sydney is great!!!  Socially I’m fitting in and settling so much more quickly than I ever did when I first moved to Melbourne … Life is good! 😀

Home & Family TO BE FIXED

I stand corrected about the Sound of Music!

This always happens when I’m not looking forward to something … I had an absolute BLAST tonight!!!  Dinner was scrummy … we went to the Retro Cafe right next door to the State Theatre, where I had lamb shanks, and the others had calamari salads … this was then followed by a Viennese coffee laced with Galliano or Kahlua … finally followed by, without a doubt, the BEST EVER sticky date pudding with caramel sauce … seriously, it is the best we’ve ALL tasted – I’d go back there just for the stick date pudding, it is seriously TO DIE FOR!!!!

The show itself was a real hoot, and when you go in there’s a goodie bag sitting on your chair with props in it for the audience participation … I think my voice will be non-existent when I get up in the morning after yelling out and cheering for Maria, doing wolf whistles at Captain Von Trapp and yelling out “he’s gorgeous!”, then hissing at the Baroness and booing the Nazis … not to mention all the singing we did to every single song (which is helped enormously by having the words to the songs at the bottom of the screen!).  Loads and loads of people got dressed up – I’ve never seen so many nuns in one place … it reminded you of the casino scene in Sister Act!! haha.

CathyB would have felt right at home in her nun’s outfit!! 😉

I must say I’d forgotten just how much I enjoy that movie … which is the legacy my mother will leave with me – I’ve been brought up with musicals all my life, and as long as you promise not to tell anyone, I’ll admit on here that I do enjoy them too! 😉

Anyway, all-in-all it was a tremendously good night out, although it ran a LOT later than we expected, so I got a taxi home to the train station instead of taking the risk of travelling on my own at night ($34 later, but probably worth it for the feeling of security … then again, the train ride might have been quieter, as my taxi driver didn’t shut up the whole way haha – did you know that by calling the train station a “train station” I was actually offending the driver, and I was lectured about it for some considerable time, because it’s anti-Australian … however, I seemed to redeem myself by pronouncing his surname right (“it’s Larkin, without the R”, so pronounced Laykin … brownie points to Anne and no more lectures about offensing his poor Australian ears with my uncouth murdering of his language haha).  I did, however, end up having a bit of a history lesson once he’d settled down … I now know all about the night rider buses and why they were introduced, along with landfills in Sydney, and shown the church that St Peters suburb was named after, not to mention the brickworks that used to make the bricks from the clay landfill, and I learnt about the trams that used to travel between Rockdale and Brighton-le-Sands, which were then replaced by the trolley buses … anything else you want to know about the area, I’m sure I can tell you something new now! teehee.

Another great thing about tonight is that Brenda and Kerrie have booked themselves a night at my place after Easter to come over and stay the night, which will be fun – plus we’re going to go away for a girlie weekend to their holiday home with a group of about 6 girls to watch chick flicks and chill out with a few drinks … I know I’ve said it before, but it’s so lovely to have people here that I know really well.  As much as I miss people from Melbourne (hi Sharon and Tannia especially!!), it’s lovely to have Brenda and Nigel here, and it’s great that I get on so well with Brenda’s best friend Kerrie as well … life is pretty good, all-in-all 🙂

Now I guess I’d better get my A into G and get to bed, as it will soon be time to wake up again for a stitching day again tomorrow … yippee! 😀
