Enjoying a sense of peace one stitch at a time
This week’s theme is “Sweet” – this forced me to wander down to the Acland Street bakeries with camera in hand … a good reason to be leaving Elwood, is to be outside walking distance of these delicacies – I was amazed to get a decent shot of the window displays, as there are always loads of people in the street drooling over the contents (and yes, I’m usually one of them! – although it’s pretty rare for me to actually buy any) 😉
This week’s theme is “Shiny” … I couldn’t come up with much this week, so I’m using a photo I used for the theme of Silver – here are spools of shiny Kreinik metallic threads.
Then I thought I’d share a piccie of my heap of cr*p car that I detest with a passion – here it’s looking very shiny, as the photo was taken before I moved to Elwood, and before it was parked beneath a tree housing a nocturnal poo-ing possum … I’ll be sharing a photo in September of what it normally looks like after a few weeks of being ‘possumed’ …
This one was even tougher than last week’s theme – “Shoes” just don’t ‘do it’ for me, as I have difficulty finding shoes that fit my broad feet … I have a heap of ideas in my head for taking new shots, but this shot is just going to have to do … this is the main shopping haul from our trip to Hong Kong last year – I was stunned to find shoes that actually fit me feet, so I went a bit crazy!! 🙂
I struggled with this week’s theme of “Art” – I just don’t have time to go out and take anything new, so here’s a photo of “art” on the banks of the Yarra here in Melbourne that I took last year.
I also pushed the envelope a bit by tweaking a photo of the Sydney Opera House using my Photoshop Elements software … it makes it look more like a piece of “art” by turning it into a watercolour/line drawing.
This week’s theme is “Colourful” – I’ve taken a photo of my wooden tulips in a bright turquoise vase. I fell in love with the bright colours of these tulips on a visit to Brisbane years ago, and now they’re residing back in their mother country here in Melbourne. One of my absolute favourite colour combinations is bright red and yellow roses in a vase together – just stunning! I was originally going to use this shot for the upcoming theme of “fake”, but I thought it was very appropriate for the theme of “colourful” as it’s so vibrant and bursting with colour! If you check out the bigger piccie, just ignore the film of dust sitting on the tulips – they’re been sitting on top of my bookcase, and I always forget to dust them! 😀
This week’s theme is “Cooked/Cooking” … after I went through two months of not being able to buy fresh veges before Christmas last year, this was my first meal where I had the money to go shopping, and I overloaded on veges … I was so thrilled I took a photo of it! This was Malaysian-style stir-fry … yummo!!
I’ve missed the last few weeks, so it’s catch-up time. I created this post yesterday, and I’m also loading up the next month’s worth in one hit and forward dating the posts so I don’t miss the next few … just one more thing ticked off my ‘non-essential’ to-do list and creating space in my head …
First, from 28 April the theme was “Rare” – I have two choices for this theme … firstly the rare sight of the Queen Elizabeth II berthed in Auckland Harbour three years ago, and secondly the rare sight of camels roaming the local marketplace here in Melbourne (at least I think it’s pretty rare to have camels roaming in a major city marketplace).
Next, from 5 May the theme was “Childhood” – I’ve chosen a shot of friends in Fiji (Grandma and her two grandkids). I had a few other choices, but I can’t be bothered scanning them right now.
Lastly, this week’s theme is “Five” – this was from a Rocky Horror Show night out in my youth with four friends, making it a great party of Five … I was driving (and very sober, as opposed to some – we’d had a cocktail party beforehand), and had to get out at a petrol pump to pump gas in that get-up, as well as chatting to a traffic cop on the way home at a motorway breathaliser checkpoint … I have some fun memories from that night. You can see how old the photo is … those are LP’s on the floor … remember those?
I’ve been quite remiss over the last couple of weeks with the weekly Photo Hunt, so I thought I’d do the last two themes plus the current one all in one hit! I’m doing a cheat’s job so I don’t forget to post on Saturday … especially as I’ll be away from home after Thursday … so “here’s something I prepared earlier …” (ie, I put this post together on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning and published it using the timestamp editor … gotta love WordPress for that little gizmo – it works a treat! It’s like a real “set it, forget it” system!) Rightio, on to the photos …
This week’s theme (14 April) is “Hobby“ … this is one of the photos I played around with when I was trying to make up a banner header for the Focus on Finishing blog – it encompasses a lot of the tools we use in my favourite hobby … needlework. I could have shown piccies of stitching, but I figure I do that every day anyway, so that’d be a tad boring 😉
The theme from last week (7 April) was “Clean“ … here is a shot of a duck at Lake Emerald Park getting him/herself clean at the end of a hard day (OK, perhaps stretching it a bit, but I always think it looks like it’s cleaning itself, not just preening …). I could have scanned a photo of me and my Goddaughter when she was a toddler cleaning my car, but I can’t be bothered finding it and cranking up the scanner … and quite honestly I just like the duck …
The previous week’s theme (31 March) was “Water“ … and my choices here are of Huka Falls at Taupo, New Zealand (there’s so much water going through there at any given time, it’s amazing!). Here’s an excerpt from the 100% New Zealand tourism website:
“The Waikato River, New Zealand’s longest river, moves gracefully north from Lake Taupo between banks 100 metres apart. Just before the Huka Falls it enters a shallow ravine of hard volcanic rock. The effect is nature’s large-scale equivalent of a fire hose feeding into a very fine nozzle. The previously placid waters roar and rumble at great speed along the ravine before bursting into space out over Huka Falls to crash into the turbulent pool 11 metres below. A foot bridge right at the top of the falls puts you in a prime position to get up close and witness the frightening display of more than 220,000 litres of water blasting by every second.”
The 2nd photo is of a waterfall located on the bush walk at the Buried Village, Rotorua, New Zealand. I love the slideshow on the website’s header – brings back lots of memories of the few times we’ve visited there.

This week’s theme was a bit of a challenge … which is what it’s all about really, and the reason I enjoy the weekly Hunt! 😀
The theme this time is “empty” and this photo just makes me think of “empty” when I see it … it’s an empty vessel with an empty beach on the horizon … in fact it was from a day that was far from empty – it was the wedding day of close family friends (I’ve known the groom since we were toddlers!). I’ve always loved this photo with its muted colours … it almost has an ethereal quality to it …
