It seems this last month has been the month of sewing and building my bag-making skills, with a few different bags being made using ByAnnie sewing patterns and others. I also managed to put the final stitches into a book cover that came kitted up from Kitty Rose Cottage back during Covid.
Notebook covers with pencil cases
These were all created for the fundraising table next month at my local Women’s Shed. I used a mix of fabrics donated to the Shed along with a few items (all the interfacings and zips etc) from my stash. Hopefully someone will find them nice enough to purchase so the funds can go back to the Shed and help to keep it open. The Shed has been a safe haven for me since moving to this area and meeting some kind-hearted women has helped me to start to trust people again and to start to build up my personal confidence. These items are just a small gesture for me to give back a little bit to the community that was there for me when I needed it.

Stitching question
What retreats or stitching events would you love to attend someday?
To be honest I think I’m done with stitching retreats for now – I’ve attended a number of them in the past and really enjoyed them, but the last one made me feel really uncomfortable so it took the shine off for me. My close stitching friends basically turned on one another and it got quite nasty, and that impacted how much enjoyment I got out of stitching get-togethers for a couple of years. I’ve only just started getting out and about to craft days at our local Women’s Shed and finally starting to build my confidence and trust again. A few of the women there have made me particularly welcome, and in some ways it’s nice to be around people who don’t have a shared history while I continue on my healing journey. Maybe one day I’ll get my love of retreats back again, but for now I have lots of wonderful memories of those I’ve attended in the past 🙂
