Canvaswork, Crazy January 2011 Challenge, From Nancy's Needle, Works in Progress

January Challenge – Day 5

I was very naughty today, as I was in the mood to stay home and do some chores … and lots more stitching … so when it was time to go into work I called the office and asked if I could have a last-minute RDO … no pressure, as I could just as easily jump in the car and come to work, but I’d really appreciate having the day off.  It got approved (yippee!), and I’ve spent the day mostly stitching, but also catching up on some blog reading, helping my elderly neighbour move her paintings around on her lounge room walls (bless her), doing 3 loads of laundry, ironing all the linens for the rest of the January Challenge pieces, and attaching the canvas to the stretcher bars… and did I mention lots more stitching?  … so, all-in-all a very productive day haha.

Seeing as the canvas was nicely tacked down today, I opted to spend a great deal of the day stitching on my canvaswork piece – and I’m amazed at just how fast it’s been stitching on this one, the piece grew at a most phenomenal rate!!  It’s one of those designs that is pretty much entirely in satin stitch and in a consistent pattern, which means once you’ve got one set of stitches done you can pretty much continue the repeats without having to check the pattern … sheer bliss!  So without any further ado, here is the MASSIVE progress on today’s challenge piece (designed by From Nancy’s Needle).

The blank spaces above are for a pearl cotton that I’m missing … but it’s on order so hopefully will be arriving over the next couple of weeks … hopefully …

I’m not sure which project will get started tomorrow … we’ll just have to see which fabric falls into my hands tomorrow night, but I’m out for dinner at a friend’s farewell party so don’t expect too much progress tomorrow, I’ll be lucky if I get a dozen stitches in for a change!

One other thing I did do today was to put Sapphire Star back onto the stretcher bars to tighten up the tension, so that’s not ready to be picked up once again after the 16th of January … 😀

  1. You got loads done! I love designs where I can stitch without needing the chart – so much quicker!

  2. That piece looks so much better on your blog than on the chart itself (but isn’t that always the way?). Beautiful!

One thing I do love about canvaswork is the speed of it and not needing to constantly refer to the chart. It can be a nice change of pace, especially if you’ve just spent time working on a piece with lots of confetti!

Hope your pearl cotton arrives quickly!

  3. Thank you so much for your visits (and comments!) to my blog lately! You have been doing very well with your challenge and had a very productive day today. Take care!

  4. I can’t think of a better way to spend an unexpected day off – bliss! You’ve made huge progress on this one, if only cross stitch worked up as quickly.

  5. Oh my! This is truly beautiful. I’ve never tried canvaswork. Time for a short visit to my LNS to see what they have, and the owners have been doing it at oour monthly stitch group, so I know they have some in the shop. Shame on you, lol!!!

  6. Sounds like a wonderful day of stitching!! You made awesome progress on your canvas piece. I am rather addicted to NN pieces lately, for just the reasons that you mentioned. You should have it wrapped up in no time once your pearl cotton arrives 🙂

  7. Ooh Ann its so pretty! I love the colours and the design! Good for you for taking a day off to “get stuff done”

  8. Sounds like you had a very productive day off.

I can’t bear too much negativity, it can drag everybody down. So I say good on you for telling your flatmate to look on the brighter side! 🙂

  9. Love the projects you have started so far for your January challenge. Keep going. I will keep checking back to watch your progress.

  10. OMG Anne, this project is absolutely gorgeous! The colors are stunning. I haven’t done canvaswork for years. I think the last project I did was in the early 80’s! (When I was just a baby, of course! LOL) It sounds like you had a lovely day off and really accomplished a lot. I am looking forward to a day where I can start one of these challenge projects and just stitch and stitch until I’m ready to stop – not forced to go to bed due to schedules or drooping eyelids.

  11. It sounds like you had a really productive RDO – I’m glad it got approved for you at the last minute. I’m fortunate at the company I work for – if I need to take a day off at the last minute, I just send a note to my boss – it’s never been an issue; I try not to leave it until the last minute to request time off, but I’m glad that I have the flexibility!
