I want some snow!!!

I just made an offer to Bine in Germany, if I pay for the courier cost, would she be willing to send me some snow? And I’m not joking … apparently the hottest January in Melbourne’s history, quite frankly I can’t wait until this heatwave is over!! Last night I got about 3 hours sleep compliments of the humidity and heat, and the heavy storms – it’s very draining on the energy levels, that’s for sure! Mind you, it gave me an excuse to sit for almost 7 hours on the computer yesterday, in front of the electric fan, catching up on all my blog feeds … always a silver lining somewhere 😉 Mum got a chicken breast out of the freezer and chucked it on the back of my neck on the way past … it was sheer heaven! I suggested turfing all the frozen food out on the floor so we could roll around on it to cool down, but she didn’t think it was a good idea LOLOL.

No stitching progress, as it’s been too hot, but I accidentally found out today that the girls at work are having a ‘whip-round’ (ie collection) between them for my birthday, seeing it’s a ‘big one’. Ali asked where you buy “that stuff that you do” (she’s miming a sewing motion with her hands as she’s asking haha) – I reply, it depends what you’re looking for. She repeated the same question – to which I once again reply, if you want just basic cheap stuff you can go to Spotlight, or if you want more specialised stuff you can go to a LNS … she then wanted to know which one I went to blah blah blah. Anyway, she finally blurted out why she was asking – then said if I prefer she can give me the money collected, rather than getting a gift voucher, so I can get what I want. I thought that was a wonderful idea, as I could do a splurge online at Stitching Bits & Bobs – I’m in heaven already, just thinking about it (especially when I assume there will be a 25% sale around Valentine’s Day or some time soon). And Mum wanted to give me my birthday money the other day too, when I was trying to find my pearl cotton for “Marine Elegance” (yes, Isabelle, you have started a trend, and blue/apricot elegance has now been officially renamed LOL). So I’ll be able to combine the two amounts and hopefully get some of my prized Gingher’s scissors again 🙂

As for my birthday ‘bash’, Dracula’s has been cancelled due to grape grazing being on the next day – and I’m not sure whether I’ll wait until closer to the other guy’s birthday date, and still have a dinner combined, or whether I’ll just organise a dinner closer to my date … I suppose I’d better hurry up and decide seeing as there are only a couple of weeks left – yikes!! LOL.

Well, off to contemplate picking a needle up, although it’s still stinking hot, so I doubt that’s going to happen. Over the last couple of days we kitted up some small projects from my stash, reading for taking to Embroiderers Guild meetings – that’s my only resolution for 2006, getting along to the meetings for stitching company and camaraderie 🙂 I can say, though, I managed to stay on top of all my blogs today and cleared all posts as soon as I walked in … woohoo!! 😉

  1. I don’t envy you the heat (although just some sunshine would be nice – can you tell I’m fed up of grey, cloudy weather LOL!) I hope it cools off soon and you can get some relief (and some stitching done 😉 )

Great news on the whip-round for your birthday – how nice of them! Looking forward to seeing what you get with the money 🙂

  2. It is so cold here in Berlin -14 at the moment, that I feel too cold to pick up a needle!! LOL…but I am not complaining! I have been watching the weather, and not envying you! Bushfires are dreadful, my brother has not been able to get back to his property to see if he has a house (he is in the Grampians!) Love all the stitching! See ya!

  3. Which Guild meetings do you go to, Anne? I used to go to the Sunday guidance groups, but haven’t been for a couple of years. The last time I was there, I was the guest speaker at the Saturday meeting, talking about my linen collection.

  4. I could have sent you TONS of snow a couple of days ago, but now it has all been washed away by lots of rain. It is actually quite warm here, about 8°C and that is A LOT for January in Iceland.

I have a friend from Melbourne who is staying visiting there now. I have been getting e-mails from him where he complains about the heat a lot. He has been in Iceland since May last year and says that he misses it so much right now, especially the cold weather.

  5. Hi Anne – you can have some of my snow – in fact, your bedroom is ready anyhow! We are possibly get a very large snowstorm Monday night through Tuesday and into Wednesday morning as well – we’ll see… too far out right now for them to predict it very accurately, but I figure there will probably be some snow!! It is very cold today, want that??

  6. I hope the heat wave breaks soon for you. We are having an unusually warm January over here, not sure why, but I’ll take it. It’s going to be 60F today and the normal is 32F or below.

Sounds like you will be adding a lot of birthday stash, hooray for you!

    Take care, stay cool! 😀

  7. Isn’t the weather bizarre lately?? We usually have very cold weather and a fair amount of snow in Jan, but it has been nearly the warmest on record. Granted our warm is still cool compared to your summer. I am dreading summer here–does this mean it will be unseasonally cool un July or every day over 100 degrees! Ugh. I hope it cools off though for you. It is miserable trying to stitch when it is so humid!!

  8. Wish I could set up a pipeline to shoot some cool air down to your flat!!! Till it cools down, play some mindless computer games, watch a movie, enjoy your mom and don’t think about stitching. It’s the last thing on my mind when the heat hits us!

  9. I hope the weather cools down soon for you. I have total sympathy for you because in a few short months it will be me who is complaining about the horrible heat and the humidity here in MS.

    have a great weekend

  10. Hey Anne…you’re more than welcome to any of our cold and snow here! We are running a bit short at the moment, though…(so I can’t complain too much!!) it was 50F and melted most of last weekend’s “white stuff”.

  11. Oh Anne, I hope you were joking!!! Because now it’s too late. All the snow melted away today.
I wish we could change the places. I love it when it’s really warm….
